Cistern

In a settlement on elevated ground, storing water was an everyday necessity.
Cistern

This cistern, located within the acropolis enclosure, was built by excavating the rock to a depth of about two metres. Its walls were coated with clay to make them waterproof, and the reservoir was covered by a structure of pine logs. On the eastern side, it had stepped access. According to the site documentation, it collected rainwater and was used during the earliest stages of occupation.

Later, it was filled with stones, and a dwelling was built over it. This transformation is one of the keys to archaeology: the settlement changed while it was inhabited. The same place could meet different needs over time, and the overlapping layers and structures make it possible to reconstruct those changes.
